with Dundee Thistle CC

The Thistle - love all things cycling.

Thistle members compete at all levels of cycling activities, from Scottish and UK events to international sportives.

We organise club confined and open time trials and promote a number of road races. The club also organises regular group training rides and APR sessions. If you are new to club cycling, we can help you with advice. We’re a supportive bunch.

The social side of cycling is an important part of Dundee Thistle. Many of our members don't race, and just enjoy taking part in our regular on and off-road group rides and other social activities. Club members also organise occasional weekend trips and the ever-popular annual Majorca training holiday.

It’s easy to join, just turn up or let us know you’d like to get involved.

The annual membership is £20.00 but if you want to know more drop us an email, scroll to the bottom of the page, or click the facebook logo.

There is freedom to be found on a bike run that no other sport can match. The Thistle can help you be the best cyclist you can be.

Always wear a helmet and carry a pump, spare innertube and basic tool kit to get you home. If you stop at a café have money.

• When you do join a group ride, follow the rules of the roadies.

Once you get the hang of the unwritten rules, remember to have fun.

Rule 1 Obey The Rules.

Rule 2 Lead by example.

Rule 3 Guide the uninitiated.

Rule 4 It’s all about the bike.

Rule 5 Man The Fuck Up. (This applies to both sexes)

Rule 6 Free your mind and your legs will follow.

Rule 7 Tan lines should be cultivated and kept razor sharp.

Rule 8 Saddles, bars, and tires shall be carefully matched.

Rule 9 If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass.

Rule 10 It never gets easier, you just go faster.

Rule 11 Family does not come first. The bike does

Rule 12 The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.

There’s at least 100 rules, but you get the idea.

Welcome to the Dundee Thistle Cycling Club

We're a small club - big on ambition. We want to spend as much time on the bike as possible, always pushing ourselves to help others achieve more on a bike.

Welcome to the web page of the Dundee Thistle cycling club. The club caters for all levels of cycling whether you are a racing/sportive enthusiast or a more casual rider looking to keep fit and enjoy the social side of cycling.

Club runs

We have two evening runs on week nights aimed at all levels and a weekend run on Sundays. The evening runs are all all roughly 20 miles over varying terrain. Club runs are open to all so you don't need to initially be a member of the club to join in on the fun.

Runs on Wednesday and Thursday leave from Invergowrie at 6pm. Wednesday is a flat route which does a loop around the Errol/Carse of Gowrie roads while Thursday is a more hilly route and takes in the Knapp road to Tullybackart and back to Dundee through Muirhead.

During the summer months we have a more competive Tuesday night APR training session which starts from Tinkies Brae (Lundie road) on the Dundee/Muirhead to Newtyle road. Meet at Tinkies Brae, which is the junction towards Lundie on the road midway between Auchterhouse and Muirhead. First group off at 7pm All welcome and all catered for. The format is to split into ability groups and set off at intervals, with the faster groups chasing the slower groups. It's usually about an hour and the course is decided on the day dependant on wind and weather.

WINTER MONTHS ONLY! Wednesday Chain Gang Ride under floodlights at the velodrome. Open house from 6ish to 7.45pm, £3 to pay for the track and lights. Ride at your own pace on your own road bike.
The velodrome has parking, toilets, changing etc.

Weekend club runs leave every Sunday at 9.30 from Camperdown Country Park gates where a number of clubs meet and there is time for a bit of friendly chat. The Camperdown Country Park can be found just off the Kingsway at the UGC cinema. Typically the club runs will vary in length from 50 to 80 miles and will almost always have a cafe stop.

Informal meetings are held after 8.30 pm every Thursday at Lochee Boys Club in Lochee, Loons road. A general meeting is held on the first Thursday of each month.

Mostly we put on road runs but have an active mountain biking group which meets at 6:30PM every Tuesday. The route can vary although we generally meet at the Tay bridge and do a ride to Tensmuir forest through Tayport.
